Obituary
Anne Wolstenholme Wence LeClair
May 2, 1950 – October 23, 2024
Anne Wence LeClair, 74, passed peacefully on October 23, 2024, at her home in Orono. Born in Bangor, and daughter of Milford and Jane Wence, Anne grew up in Orono. She attended Orono High School and earned her B.A. degree in child development from the University of Maine at Orono.
As a professional social worker, Anne dedicated her life to helping children and their families. Anne brought to her work a combination of intellect, intuition, and compassion. She was a generous, loving, person who enjoyed a debate. Talking with her and laughing with her was a gift. She was not shy to share her opinions and was always interested in hearing others.
Anne is survived by four sons and their loving partners: Sam Haggett and his wife Missy Haggett, Bath Maine; Jeremy LeClair and his wife Colleen LeClair, Bucksport, Maine; Nathan LeClair and his wife Carol LeClair, Lisbon, Maine; and, Adam LeClair and his husband Rhenard LeClair, Washington, DC. Anne is survived by seven grandsons (Christopher LeClair, RJ LeClair, Gabriel LeClair, Caleb LeClair, Benjamin LeClair, Jacob LeClair, Tyler Haggett), and one granddaughter, Tori Haggett. She is survived by great-granddaughter, Reese LeClair, and great-grandson, Jaxson Haggett. She is survived by her sister, Martha Wence Summerville and brother-in-law Jeffrey Summerville, New Haven, Connecticut.
Anne’s sons and grandchildren are one part of Anne’s amazing family and community. Anne was loved and appreciated by an extraordinary group of extended family, in-laws, and friends who were wrapped into Anne’s daily life, and all loved. We thank and celebrate Anne’s “chosen daughters” whom she loved as her own, Lee Caron, Randolph, Maine and Rebecca Corcoran, Norridgewock, Maine. There are many others—a community of extended family, chosen family, and friends who were nurtured by Anne’s warmth, wisdom, and humor. She was an exceptional mother and caretaker to so many and we will miss her dearly.
