BANGOR - Tony “Grumpy” Malchiodi, 78, passed away January 31, 2019 at a local hospital. He was born March 2, 1941 in Weehawken, N.J., the son of Anthony and Yolanda (Temellini) Malchiodi.
Tony enlisted in the US Air Force in 1959 serving until 1962. In 1961 he married Judith Jamieson. Grumpy began a career which spanned nearly 22 years of dedicated and rewarding service to the Bangor Fire Department, retiring in 1984 as a Lieutenant. He then worked for the Bangor Water District, later Penobscot County Jail and lastly with the State of Maine Department of Transportation.
Grumpy enjoyed his special time with his five grandchildren, making Sunday mornings a ritual for breakfast at Bagel Central, and was one of the founding members of the Bangor Fire Department Liar’s Club.
In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his wife, Judy; an infant daughter, Mary; and a son, William “Willie” Malchiodi. Surviving are three children, Katie Guernsey and husband, Garrett, Kerry Bushway and husband, Chris, Eric Malchiodi and partner, Shelley Tozier; five grandchildren, Emma and Abby Guernsey, Olivia and Isaac Bushway, and Michela Malchiodi; one brother, Louis Malchiodi; special partner, Linda Hake; Linda’s grandchildren, whom Tony always thought of his own, Angelica, Silas, Evelyn, Alexis, Jarrod, Kalyn, Cody, Bella, Sabrina, and Brooklyn; and a “third” daughter, Nancy Preble.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019, Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor. The Rite of Committal will be held at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor, immediately following the Funeral Mass. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the committal, Wednesday.
