"When I forget how talented God is, I look to the sea."

Eddington – Arlan “Woody” K. Martin, 71, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer November 5, 2016, at his home surrounded by loving family. He was born February 24, 1945, in Crestview, Florida, the only child of David and Viola (Birky) Martin.

Woody grew up in Delavan, Illinois surrounded by his large extended family and graduated from Delavan High School, class of 1963. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969. While serving he married the love of his life, Jean Gilpatrick. In 1975 they moved to Levant (Maine), where they had many happy years raising their family. Woody earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Husson College. He held various positions with Pargas, in Waldorf, MD; Maine Information Systems, Bangor Hydro, and the University of Maine. Every August was spent raking blueberries in Downeast Maine, where many family memories were created. During his retirement, Woody enjoyed working for Hamlin Marine. He also enjoyed being a member of the Penobscot Bay Sail and Power Squadron.

Woody enjoyed golfing, woodworking, sailing, fishing, and radio controlled airplanes. He also loved the outdoors, and worked on a Montana ranch in his earlier years. He travelled throughout his life, including to Arizona, Illinois and Washington to visit family. His greatest joys were his wife, Jean, and family gatherings where he would play games with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Woody was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Ivan Gilpatrick. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean of Eddington; daughter Jodi Evenson and husband Robert of Eddington; son Ryan Martin and wife Emily Murphy of Snohomish, WA; grandchildren Ethan Evenson, and Molly and Allison Martin.
