Arlene M. McNeal, 84, passed away peacefully April 23, 2019 at her home in Brunswick. She was born in Presque Isle, the daughter of James Archie and Mamie (Good) Porter.
Arlene graduated from Caribou High School in 1951. Arlene and William (Bill) E. McNeal married in 1952 and celebrated 66 years of steadfast love. The couple made homes for their family in Caribou, Augusta and, Brewer. Throughout her life, Arlene worked as a bookkeeper for many companies, including the Caribou Hotel, Maine Potato Bag Company, Central Maine Power and Dead River. Arlene’s creative and artistic talents were an important part of her life. She was an accomplished gardener, arranged flowers, created artistic crafts, and stenciled the handmade wooden furniture made by Bill. Together they enjoyed selling their work at juried craft shows throughout Eastern Maine. Arlene was an active member of the Second Congregational Church in Brewer. Many looked forward to her home-made contributions to bake sales, church suppers and Sunday fellowship coffees. Arlene lived her life with a song in her heart and inspired those around her as a wife, mother, grandmother and strong, independent woman. She will be greatly missed.
Arlene is survived by her sons, William P. McNeal and wife, Elizabeth Kreigh, of Topsham, Thomas McNeal and wife, Stacie, of Annapolis, Maryland; a daughter, Beth Harris and husband, Jeff, of Mandeville, Louisiana; and five grandchildren, Megan, Erin, Ashwini, Audrey, and Ryan.
A Service of Remembrance will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the Second Congregational Church of Brewer, 607 South Main Street, Brewer, with Rev. David Morrison officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the church hall immediately following the service, Sunday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou.
