Arline Geaghan
Brewer-Bangor
Arline (Harvey) Geaghan died peacefully on January 25, 2019. She was born in Bangor on June 12, 1920, the daughter of James Harold and Mary (Budway) Harvey. Arline graduated from John Bapst High School in 1939, then continued her education and attained her RN from Sister’s Hospital in Waterville Maine. Upon his return from the war, Arline married John Geaghan in December of 1945. John and Arline settled in Brewer where they lived and raised their family of eleven children. Throughout the years, Arline worked as a nurse in various capacities, from the hospital nursery, to private duty nursing, to geriatric care. For many years she was in charge of the Nurses Registry. The Registry was essentially an early employment agency for nurses in which Arline would pair a nurse with an expressed need for nursing services. The Registry operated from her home which gave Arline the ability to work as she raised her active family. In 1975 Arline, along with her husband John, established John Geaghan’s Roundhouse Restaurant on Main Street in Bangor. On any given day, John could be found in the kitchen while Arline greeted, seated, and warmly welcomed every customer who came through the door. After John’s death in 1983, Arline remained active in the restaurant both out front greeting customers, and behind the scenes working in the office. She continued working until her retirement, in 2016, at the age of 96! Although she made a career out of nursing and the restaurant business, her true vocation and the one she held most dear, was that of Mom. She always said that her greatest accomplishment was her children. She loved us all deeply, and individually, and her love and her lessons will be imprinted on our hearts forever.
In addition to her parents, her brothers James, and Charles Harvey, and her husband John, Arline was predeceased by two beloved children, Kathleen Mary, who died after a long illness at the age of 7, and Timothy Edward who died suddenly at the age of 16. Arline held them in her heart until the day she died. She is survived by her brother Ken and his wife JoAnne Harvey of Eddington, her children; Michael and his wife Vivian of Ohio, Terrance of Woolwich, David of Massachusetts, Christopher and his wife Michelle of Hampden, Larry and his wife Rhonda of Orrington, Pat and his wife Brenda of Brewer, Carolyn and her husband Michael Mardosa of Bangor, Peter and his wife Cynthia of Orrington, and Richard of Bangor. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren; Christopher, Traci, Timothy, Robert, Moriah, Sean, Colin, Caitlin, Trevor, Thomas, Andrew, Jason, Tara, Maisie, Lucy, and Hailey, her 13 great grandchildren, several special sisters-in-law, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her friends at the Ellen Leach Home.
