Arthur attended the local Bangor Schools and graduated from Bangor High School in 1945. He enjoyed his studies and his outside activities. Following his graduation, he attended the US Merchant Marine Academy. Arthur served as a Cadet in the Engine Department of the cargo ship, making voyages to foreign countries with supplies. The business was sold to Portland Welding Supply in Bangor and Arthur was hired as the plant manager, until he retired at the age of 62. Arthur was a grateful long term survivor of prostate and breast cancers, and a proud participant in several Race for the Cure walkathons in support of a breast cancer cure.
