Arthur Curtis, Sr.

October 5, 1937 — February 4, 2014

EDDINGTON – Arthur E. Curtis Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 4, 2014 at a Bangor hospital with his family by his side. Arthur was born October 5, 1937 in Bangor, the son of the late Harold F. and Eillein Lee Curtis of Bangor. Arthur was affectionately known to his family and grandchildren as “Poppie”. He attended Bangor High School and was a graduate of the University of Maine, class of 1977. Arthur resided in Old Town while an officer for the Old Town Police Department and a longtime employee of the University of Maine. Eventually moving to Eddington in 1985, he owned and operated “The Mercantile” store with his lifelong friend Roland K. Rose. Arthur also worked for Securitas Security Company part time for the past twenty one years. Anyone who knew him just knew he was happiest enjoying hours in the woods or on the water hunting and fishing. He looked forward to escaping the cold and wintering in Zephyrhills, FL each year with his wife Carol. When the weather warmed, Arthur rushed home to spend time with Kasey Ann and Hunter. “Poppie” will be missed dearly, but his legacy he leaves behind is his love he had for his family and the outdoors. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Julie Jacobs of Brewer. Arthurs passing leaves sadness, sorrow and happy memories to those who survived him. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty six years Carol LaPlante Curtis, son Arthur E. Curtis Jr. and wife Daphne of Carmel, daughter Kelli A. Kimball and husband Michael of Amherst, and two very special grandchildren Kasey Ann and Hunter Curtis Kimball. He also leaves behind a sister Charlotte Smith and her husband Ralph of Bangor, three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Jacobs of Brewer, Ralph F. LaPlante Jr. and wife Ann of Old Town, Ronald C. LaPlante and his wife Dawn of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters-in-law, Gail P. LaPlante of Bangor, Jennette LaPlante of Brewer, and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of remembrance will be held 6-8 PM Thursday February 6, 2014 at the Brewer chapel of Brookings-Smith 55 South Main St. Those who wish to remember Arthur in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Cancer care of Maine C/O EMHS Foundation P.O.
