Arthur G. Dearborn III, of Holden, Maine, passed peacefully on June 8, 2015, surrounded by those he loved. Art was born in Bangor, Maine, January 18, 1938, the son of Arthur G. and Ella C. (Gray) Dearborn Jr. He was the first of 3 sons.
Grant is survived by his “guardian angel” of 56 years, Frances M. Dearborn of Holden who stood by his side and cared for him with a loving heart and gentle hands. He was the proud father of Arthur “Chip” G. Dearborn IV of Holden, Deborah L. Dearborn of Holden and Trevor L. Dearborn of Bangor. He is also survived by a brother, Joel A. Dearborn of Holden, 2 grandchildren, Kasie L. Gallant and Arthur Grant Dearborn V, 1 great-grandson, Avery G. Dearborn, a step great-grandson Barrett J. Gallant and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Art was predeceased by a son, Mark C. Dearborn and a brother, Dale A. Dearborn. Whether you knew the name Arthur, Art, Grant or Sonny, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and friend to all.
Arthur was a graduate from the Orono ROTC, UMO, and received a BS in agricultural engineering. He entered the Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, in 1960 as first lieutenant and was discharged in 1964 as Captain to return to his roots. He dedicated 35 years of his life to the USDA Soil Conservation Service, at the Orono office, 30 of those years as a Maine State Conservationist Engineer. He retired in 1996 to work alongside his wife in operating the former Sunrich Tanning Boutique in Bangor. He was a member, up until the time of his passing, of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge of Orrington, Scottish Rite Bodies, Maine Consistory 32nd degree and Anah Shriners. He remained passionate about these organizations and the work they do for families and communities throughout the state. A special thanks goes to EMMC Critical Care doctors and nurses who surrounded Art and his family; they will forever be stamped in their hearts. Their kindness and compassion filled the room and the hearts of those in it. God and our spirit loved ones sent these angels and the family is eternally grateful.
