Arthur C. Lailer, III, 77, formerly of Portland, died peacefully, at home December 19, 2013. He was the beloved husband and soul mate of Beverlie A. Lailer for 30 years. Born in Portland May 18, 1936 the son of Arthur C. and Annie (Higgins) Lailer, Jr. Pioneers of America.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Susan Soper of Portland; Cathy Blotnick and her husband Charles of Charlotte, N.C.; four stepdaughters, Crystal Ayer and her husband Ernest of Bucksport, Laurel Beal of Dixmont, Cheryl Price of Moriaville, Kathy Reeves and her husband Thayne of Glenburn; one son, Arthur “Mike” C. Lailer IV and his wife Suellen
Arthur graduated from South Portland High School in 1954 and attended Portland Junior College. He was employed by New England Telephone /Nynex as manager in the equipment installation department for 35 years, before retiring in 1990. He was a life member of the Telephone
of Portland; two stepsons, David Heal and his wife Karla of Boonville, IN; Dana Heal and his friend Diane Allen of Holden; 24 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; two sisters, Gail Labbe and her husband Joseph of Windham, Judith Lailer of Portland; one brother, Frank Lailer and his wife Rosemary of Englewood, FL.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM. Monday December 23, 2013 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor, with Pastor Kirk Winters, officiating. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery, Windham. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Kidney Foundation of Maine, 470 Forest Av., Portland, ME. 04101.
