Audrey J. Higgins

Audrey Jean Higgins passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 4, 2024. She was born in Augusta, ME on June 18, 1932 to Manson & Fern London. Audrey was the middle child to siblings Blanche “Bunny”, John, Lois, and Paul “Sonny”. She grew up in Portland, Maine and graduated from Portland High School in 1950. She later graduated from Gray’s Business College which started her career with Traveler’s Insurance Company. This job led her to find the love of her life, Leon F. Higgins II, and move to Bangor, Maine in 1966 with her daughter, Laura. Together Audrey and Lee worked happily side by side for many years at D. S. Higgins and Sons. After Lee retired in 1980, she continued to work and achieved great success as a Realtor for ERA Dawson Bradford until her retirement in 2020. Audrey loved to give back to her community and volunteered for many organizations and charities throughout the years including The Cole Land Transportation Museum, The Good Samaritan Agency, The Bangor Children’s Home, The Bangor Garden Club, Eastern Area Agency on Aging, The Penobscot Theatre and The Boys and Girls Club of Bangor. She was also honored to serve as President of the Bangor YWCA, Board Chair of the United Way of Penobscot Valley, a member of the Advisory Boards for EMMC and Acadia Hospital, and as a Corporator for Bangor Savings Bank. Audrey’s faith played a very important role in her life. She taught Sunday School, became a Lay Leader and organized many food drives at Brewer Methodist Church. She eventually joined All Souls Church and looked forward to worshipping every Sunday. She was honored to accept Chapter A PEO membership and recently celebrated her 50th anniversary as a PEO sister. She treasured her family, her sisterhood and cherished the many friendships that she made along the way. She was predeceased by her loving husband, her 4 siblings, and many other family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Laura Steller (Wayne), her grandchildren, Jenny (Mike), Kevin (Christie), Travis (Erin), and Karl (Alicia), and her great-grandchildren Ellee, Ava, Sarah, Addilynn, Cam, Lauren, Mason, Amelia, Everleigh, Eliza and Bennett.
