Barbara Geiger

June 24, 1942 — November 20, 2019

BREWER – Barbara (Matyus) Geiger, 77, passed away unexpectedly in her home on November 20, 2019 in the late afternoon. She was born on June 24, 1942 and was raised in Yatesboro, PA, the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Vozar) Matyus.
She attended Fenn College in Cleveland, OH where she met her lifelong love and best friend, William R. Geiger in 1960. After her husband’s graduation from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH they moved to Maine where he taught at the University of Maine, and together they started a family. In 1977 Barbara, with the help and encouragement of her husband, started a small health food store that evolved into the Natural Living Center in Bangor. Barbara was a trailblazer in the natural food and health community in the greater Bangor area. Her passion for helping people, interest in herbs, supplements, and foods from around the world, and her desire to learn made her a wealth of knowledge.
She spent many happy hours helping customers and managing the store. She remained involved with the store until her passing. Barbara was a people person and loved nothing better than interacting with her family and many friends. She was an avid gardener, loved reading, traveling and camping.
In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her much loved children, Sharon Geiger and Robert Geiger. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Amanda Fuchs, Nathan Geiger-Tozier, and Mindy Baxter; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Marilyn Baxter, and Seamus and Liam Fuchs.
