Barbara May Gerow, 87, died August 23, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born February 4, 1933 in Prospect, Maine, she would often reminisce about the large hill she would have to trek to-and-from school, and warm nights in The Stone House with siblings Eva, Lucille, Roland, and Eddie. Barbara was much loved by her parents Herman and Verna Mae (Hall) Harriman. She is greeted in Heaven by her parents, siblings, and her beloved grandangel, Julia Lee Gerow.
Barbara graduated from Bucksport High School in 1950. Shortly after, she married and spent nearly 67 years with the love of her life and ballroom dance partner, Harold L. Gerow.
Barbara was most happy surrounded by her family. She would never let someone leave her house hungry, or without beating them in cards. Always a determined spirit, she was the President of the Jaycees Wives and raised four sons. She will be remembered as a fantastic cook, proud Grammy and GG, card shark, chicken pox nurse, puzzle and crossword expert, a tender heart, and the best Halloween costume designer ever.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her four sons, Gary Gerow and his wife, Brenda; Steven Gerow and his wife, Renee; Paul Gerow and his wife, Deb; and Stuart Gerow and his wife, Maura. She is also survived by her grandchildren Gary M. Gerow, Katelyn Gerow, Kristyn Gerow, Valerie Hatcher, Ashleigh Hubley, Kyle Main, Thomas Gerow, Mitchell Gerow, Michael Gerow, Aimeé Gerow, Antoine Gerow, Angelique Adams, Annemarie Beauregard, Rebekah Timms, Ashlee Black and Cooper Gerow; and nine great grandchildren, Olivia, Garrett, Finley, Charlotte, Gabriel, Calvin, Lucy, Roslyn, and Victoria.
A private service and burial will be held for the immediate family. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date.
