Barbara P. Jones

Bangor - Barbara P. Jones, 92, died in the comfort of her Bangor home on June 25, 2024. During her last days she was surrounded by her loving family and the exceptional care of Beacon Hospice staff. She was born July 23, 1931, in Canaan, Maine, the daughter of Beatrice (Berry) Waugh and Maurice Porter. Coburn Waugh was a beloved stepfather.

Barbara was a high school graduate of Somerset Academy and completed a business degree at Husson College, Class of 1950. Following college graduation, she began a banking career at Merchants Bank in Bangor. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Malcolm E. Jones, for 58 years, until his death in 2011.

Barbara was an avid gardener, seamstress, crafter and quilter. She approached all of these hobbies with a desire for beauty and precision, a love of learning new things and readiness to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Barbara cherished her time spent with the members and pursuits of the Maine Herb Society and Bear Paw Quilters.

She was a wonderful mother to daughters, Lisa Simmons and Pamela Correll and will be greatly missed by them and their husbands, Gordon Simmons and Glenn Correll. Barbara is also survived by four grandchildren and their families, who will remember her as their very special "Mamie"; Vaughn Simmons, Amber Simmons and her partner, Jonathan Pratt, Michael Correll and his partner, Kaitlin Garabedian, and Sabrina Correll, her husband, David Sokolow and their son, Eli Sokolow.

The family invites relatives and friends to join them for a memorial gathering from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
