Barbara Plisga

May 4, 1946 — September 18, 2024

Veazie - Barbara A. (Clukey) Plisga, 78, passed away peacefully following a long illness on September 18, 2024, at a Bangor hospital. Barbara Ann was born on May 4, 1946, in Presque Isle, ME to her parents, Clyde and Bertha (Ferland) Clukey.

Barb was raised in a loving family, being the oldest of four children. Barb was educated in Presque Isle schools and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1964. She went on to further her education at the University of Maine in Orono and graduated in 1968 with her Bachelor of Education. It was there that she met her husband and soulmate, Stan. Barb and Stan spent 54 wonderful years together traveling and entertaining friends and family at their home on Chemo Pond, in St. Maarten, or at their camp at Sugarloaf. In later years, more memories were created at Ambajejus Lake and Bonita Springs, Florida.

Barb spent her career teaching English to middle school students at the Dr. Lewis S. Libby School in Milford, ME, until her retirement in 1993. She made education fun while expanding the minds of many young people and leaving a lasting impression on them. It was through her teaching career that she developed numerous lifelong friendships which she cherished.

Barb had many interests, especially getting together with her various "groups" of friends to play cards or fishing on Chemo Pond. Mostly, she loved to read and always frequented public libraries when possible. Barb will be remembered by all whose lives she touched for her kindness, generosity, welcoming manner, and especially her great sense of humor.

Barb is survived by her loving sister, Cindy Embelton and her husband, Hubert, of Hermon; sisters-in-law, Gail Clukey of Englewood, FL, Sheila Maxwell and her husband, Ron, of Winslow, and Donna Plisga and her husband, Tony Lee, of Alaska. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Matthew Packard and fiancée, Kate Perry, Kristen Perry and husband, Ben, Jared Embelton, Trisha Souviney, Jason Maxwell and wife, Karrianne, Kirk Lewis, Stephanie Stewart, Nathan Lewis, and Jason Trask. Also surviving are great-nieces and great-nephews, Jake, Abbie, Kennedy, Cooper, Bethanny, Nixon, Jaclyn, Aubrey; and a great-great-niece, Ellie Lyn. Barb also leaves behind many close friends that have been a part of her life for many years as well as her sweet pup, Addy Rose. In addition to her parents and husband, Stan, Barb was predeceased by her brothers, Tom Clukey and Dick Clukey of Presque Isle; and her in-laws, Stanley Sr. and Florence Plisga of Waterville.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Barbara to be held 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, ME. The family invites family and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately following the memorial service.

Interment will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, in Presque Isle, at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on North Main St. at noon time.
