Corinth - Barbara Evelyn Strout, 87, died peacefully on January 10, 2023, in Bangor, Maine, after a short illness with her family by her side. She was born March 1, 1935, in Ft. Fairfield, Maine to Francis Harold Chesley Trafton and Vera Gertrude (Shannon) Trafton.
She graduated from Husson College and taught Business for 35 years, 32 in the Corinth school system. She married Robert Earle Strout on June 21, 1957. They had 2 children, Alan and Frannie and made a wonderful life in Corinth, Maine.
She actively served in her church community until her death and was devoted to her family. They were her greatest joy. She never missed a ball game, birthday, concert or any other milestone. She was their greatest fan and cheerleader. She really enjoyed meeting with the gals at Dunkin Donuts for coffee and chit-chat a couple times a week. She loved going to spring training and cheering for her Baltimore Orioles.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her sister, Catherine Hutchins; her brothers, Howard and James Trafton; grandson, Nathan Phillips, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her son, Alan and his wife, Katherine, of Kenduskeag; her daughter, Frances Phillips and her husband, Robert, of Bangor; grandchildren, Christopher Strout and his wife, Amber Howard, of Bar Harbor, Matthew Strout and his wife, Katie, of Riverton, Utah, Michael Strout of Westbrook, Caleb Phillips and his wife, Tabrizia, of Bangor; great-grandchildren, Benson, Camden and Amelia Strout of Riverton, Utah, Ezra Phillips of Bangor; her sisters-in-law, Lucille Strout, Lorayne Strout, Nathalie Trafton and Marylin Trafton; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2023, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, the family invites all to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
