GLENBURN - Barbara Wilson Swetnam, 88, went home to be with the Lord on January 5th, 2015. She was born February 16, 1926, in Caribou, only child of Alonzo V. and Grace A. (Todd) Wilson. Barbara graduated from Caribou High School, Class of 1943.
In 1947 Barbara left "The County" but it never left her heart. Life's journey took her to Pittsfield where she married Lloyd Ewer. Together they settled in Hampden and operated the Ewer Candy Company. Widowed in 1973, she remained in the area and retired from the Bangor City Hall in 1985. In 1996 she married long time friend, Gerald Swetnam and they together enjoyed wintering in Brooksville, Florida and spending summers at their cottage on the New England Fellowship Conference grounds in Rumney, NH. Barbara enjoyed sending cards, needlepoint, crochet and she had a sweet tooth for Snicker's candy bars. She never missed a loved ones birthday or anniversary, she shared her crafts with family and friends all over, and the candy bars, well lets just say she kept them hidden away in her freezer.
Barbara often quoted 2 Corinthians 5:8; "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" and she looked forward to the day she would meet her Heavenly Father and join loved ones who had gone before her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Gerald Swetnam in 2005 and her loving son, Nathan E. Ewer Sr. in 2011. She is survived by a daughter-in-law Betty A. (Chute) Ewer, of Glenburn; step children John Swetnam, Joyce (Swetnam) Falk and Joan (Swetnam) Harrington all of Florida; four grandchildren, Nathan Ewer Jr and wife Glenda of Walla Walla, Washington, Heidi (Ewer) Townsend and husband Brandon of Glenburn, David Baker and wife Mary of Glenburn, Tony Ewer and wife Mary of Warner Robbins, Georgia; great grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah and Aaron Baker, Taylor Anne Townsend all of Glenburn and Luc Ewer of Walla Walla, Washington.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Lakeview Cemetery in Glenburn. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by the staff of the Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
