Barbara Lee Thompson, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Carmel, ME on February 25, 2023 with her family by her side.
Barbara was born on July 23, 1946 to Charles D. and Norma M. (Bonnell) Thompson. She grew up in Randolph, MA, and spent summers on Cape Cod with her grandparents and great-grandparents. In her youth she enjoyed sailing with her father or on her own in her father's sailfish.
She spent much of her adult life as a loving wife, mother, and caregiver while also being a professional administrator and retail specialist. But by far, her favorite role was as a nana. Barbara had a passion for reading and was a gifted writer and editor. Self-taught, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing, donating hundreds of knitted items to charities and gifts to friends and family. She loved to bake and spent countless hours baking for those she cared about. She was overjoyed moving to Maine a few years ago so the family could assist he with her health needs, as well as her helping the family with the homestead.
Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Richter of Randolph, MA and Wendy Richter and husband Robert Stevens, and devoted grandchild Ivy Richter, all of Carmel, ME, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren from her extended family. She will also be deeply missed by her two sisters, Dorothy J. LaFratta of West Boylston, and Charlene D. Reinbold of Keene, NH and their extended families, several close friends and the family dog Schnitzel, who never left her side.
Barbara’s kind heart and gentle soul will be missed by so many and she was thankful for all her close friends and family.
A private gathering of immediate family and friends in Maine will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the family home in Carmel. A colorful and public celebration of life will be held in Massachusetts in the weeks to follow. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
