KENDUSKEAG - Bert Barnhart Mandigo, 93, died March 16, 2025, at a Bangor hospital. He was born December 17, 1931, in Russell, New York, the son of Everett E. and Margaret (Barnhart) Mandigo.
Bert joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and served in Panama. He received his GED in the military in 1952. In 1953, he married Edna M. McBroom. Bert joined the carpenters' union and served on many construction projects throughout New York. Later, he was employed by Lane Construction company serving assignments in many locations in New York, Virginia, West Virginia, and then Maine. In the mid-eighties, he moved his family to Kenduskeag, Maine. He also served as a Selectman for the Town of Kenduskeag for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Mason's, Moose Club, and VFW.
Bert's greatest source of joy was his family. He had an unwavering love for them; taking immense pride in their accomplishments and always offered his wisdom, humor and support. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply spending time together, he made every moment with them special. He also enjoyed building and racing stock cars. He and his grandson, Derek, restored his father-in-law's 1965 Rambler Ambassador.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Edna (McBroom) Mandigo, are his daughters, Linda Perrigo and her husband, Terry, of Tupper Lake, New York, Deborah Ferguson and her husband, Brian, of Rochester, New York and Lisa Petrino, of Searsmont, Maine; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon Homestead; granddaughter, Danielle Rampullo, and his brothers, Morgan and Gordon.
Per Bert's request, services will be private. Interment will be in the spring at the convenience of the family. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
