Bertha Bass, 85, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Blue Hill, July 22, 1930, to Frank H. and Sarah A. Wheeler.
Bertha grew up on Plymouth Ridge, where she attended school. Bertha spent later years raising a family and working as a short order cook for Brountas Restaurant in Bangor and then for Nicky's Restaurant in Bangor, from which she retired. She spent her retirement feeding birds and tending her flower beds, which she loved.
Bertha is survived by her husband of 45 years, Wes Bass; daughters, Theresa Gomez of Calif., Kathy Nickerson of Swanville, Dianne Hall of Prospect, Goldie Hall of Stockton Springs; one sister, Dora Pendleton; brother in law, Francis Bass; sisters in law, Maxine Bass, Genivea Michael; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Robert R. Hall, Jr.; brother, Horace Wheeler; and two sisters, Doris Brown and Alice Cates.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 - 8 pm, Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapter of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave, Hampden. A graveside service will be held 1 pm, Saturday, September 26, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. The family invites all who attend the graveside to share in conversation and refreshments at the residence of Sam Smith, Bass Lane, Winterport.
