Hermon-Brewer
Bertha E. Grant, 86, went to be with the Lord September 3, 2020. She was born in Ellsworth, May 22, 1934, the daughter of Arthur and Abbie Grant. She attended Ellsworth schools and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1952.
During her lifetime, she lived in Ellsworth and Portland, ME., Allentown, PA., Skowhegan, Bangor and Hermon, ME. She was employed by R.T Gordon and Linnehan Auto Sales in Ellsworth, Medwed Shoe Factory in Skowhegan and for the State of Maine, Department of Public Health Nursing in Portland. Bertha also worked for Standard Shoe Company and Sleepers Clothing Store, Bangor.
She enjoyed bowling, miniature golf, day trips or retreats with her Christian friends. Bertha had many pen pals and longtime friends that she wrote to throughout the United States. She made friends wherever she lived and loved them all. When she lived in Ellsworth, she was a member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church. After moving to Hermon, she became a member of Hermon Baptist Church and served in the church. On of her many areas of service was to the shut-ins that she visited in homes, hospitals and nursing homes. This often resulted in helping them in various ways. They not only appreciated her concern for them, but enjoyed her great sense of humor. She was also a volunteer for hospice.
Bertha was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Frederick N. Grant, sister-in-law, Carolyn Grant, great-nephew, Matthew, great niece, Michelle, other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Surviving are a niece, Christine, three nephews, David, Paul and Kenneth, cousins, great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11 am. Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the West Surry Cemetery, Surry with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church, and the Rev. Dr. Donald Page, longtime friend officiating.
