Betty Baughman

OTIS - Betty M. Baughman, 90, passed away February 11, 2025, at a Bangor nursing home. She was born Sept. 4 1934, in Holton, Kansas, the daughter of John and Josephine (Mosher) Schafer.

Betty grew up on a farm in Kansas with her parents and two siblings, Rex and Lenora "Nonie". She married James "Jim" Baughman on July 19 1952, in Holton, Kansas. They traveled the country and spent time in Turkey through the Air Force, where Jim served for 20 years. Together, they had 6 children, raised 5 boys and a daughter who passed away early in life. They eventually settled on Beech Hill Pond in Otis, Maine and called that home for the next 60 years. She made her home a welcomed place for anyone. She loved to bowl and was in multiple leagues in Bangor, Maine. After Jim's passing in 1996, she worked part time caring for elderly individuals. Betty loved spending time with her immediate and extended family all around the country. She loved to travel and made friends everywhere she went. She was known by many names from those who loved her: Mimi, Grammy B, Nana, Mom and Betty.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jim; daughter, Kelly Sue, and son, Lester Baughman. Surviving her, are her sons John, Ronald, Dennis and Mark Baughman as well as 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and friends and neighbors are too numerous to list.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at a date and time to be determined in the spring. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
