Betty Picard

October 23, 1934 — July 13, 2016

BANGOR – Betty A. Picard, 81, died peacefully in her sleep July 13, 2016, at home surrounded by family. She was born October 23, 1934 in Bangor, daughter of the late Clifford J. and Mabel G. (Edgecomb) Arnold.

Betty graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1952. She met the love of her life, James “Jim” Picard and were married January 29, 1962 and enjoyed a wonderful 54 years of marriage. They raised three children, Douglas, Brian and his wife, Julie and Cynthia and her partner, Amy McCormack; four grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew, Jill and Molly; one sister, Mirian Froebel from Denver, CO. Betty was predeceased by a son, Douglas and two sisters, Barbara Kenney and Fern Clendenning.

Betty lived a very active life. After graduation from Bangor High, she was secretary for a Bangor law firm then moved to San Antonio, TX, working at Kelly Air Force Base at the Special Weapons Division. Returning to Bangor, she worked at Dow Air Force Base in the Supply Unit, until the Base closed. She then went to work at Maine Motel Supply where she worked for over twenty years. Betty loved singing and dancing and was in the Bangor Community Theater production of My Fair Lady, and carol group in other productions. She was past President of the Bangor Jaycee Wives and past President with her husband of the Saturday Nighters Club. Betty cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She could usually be found enjoying the sun by the pool surrounded by smiling faces, or in the woods, enjoying the warmth of a camp fire with her family. All who knew Betty will remember her kind eyes, beautiful smile, hundreds of these smiles were also enjoyed by her many furry children. Betty was an animal lover and you could usually count on opening the door to another loving cat or dog. “Lilly”, Betty’s beloved Yorkshire terrier, was by her side watching over her as she passed. Betty will remember you for your loving holiday cards, your phone calls, just to say how much you loved us, and your warm and loving hugs and kisses. Thank you for all the fond memories and we will live happily knowing that there is another very special angel looking over us.
