Merle “Butch” Owen Boyer Jr. Hermon – Merle O. Boyer Jr, 70, passed away, Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at a Portland hospital. He was born December 18, 1942, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Merle Owen and Kathleen (Stewart) Boyer Sr. Merle grew up in Charleston and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father on the family owned land. He graduated from Higgins Classical Institute where he played all sports, and later attended college in Massachusetts. He served in the Air National Guard in Bangor. He married Bonnie Golding on May 24, 1969 and they shared forty four years of marriage together, and raised two daughters: Cynthia Marie and Kara. Merle loved to work with his hands and found that working as a pipefitter gave him great pleasure and there was no job he could not handle. He traveled throughout Maine and New England to various mills for forty years doing the job he loved. Even as an adult Merle loved the outdoors and spent many hours with Bonnie fishing. He loved watching the Boston Red Sox, and had many hats proving his loyalty to the team. He was a member of the Ralph J. Pollard #217 A.F.&A.M. In addition to his mother Kathleen and his loving wife Bonnie of Hermon, he leaves behind his two daughters; Cynthia Boyer of Bangor and Kara Boyer of Brewer, his two grandsons; Robert Owen McCann, Kadon James McCann, three sisters; Anita Theriault and her husband Robert of Cumberland, Karen Boyer of Charleston, Loretta Brown and her husband Tony of Corinth, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins and a special aunt, Christine Smith. He was predeceased by his father Merle Owen Sr.Friends may call 3-5 PM Sunday August 18, 2013 at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home 133 Center St. Bangor where funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Monday with the Rev. David LaSalle officiating. Immediately after the service, the family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Interment will take place following the reception at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. Gifts in his memory may be made to Autism Society Of Maine 72 B Main St. Winthrop, ME 04364.
