Brandon James MacKay was born in Bangor, Maine on October 1, 1979 to David and Mary MacKay. He was born into a loving family with three older sisters; Melissa, Victoria and Holly. From a very young age, Brandon was faced with extraordinary challenges. At the age of 4, Brandon was diagnosed with Leukemia. It was the first real battle of his life, and his first victory.
After overcoming cancer, Brandon went on to live a very normal and happy life. He attended the Bangor School system and graduated from Bangor High School in 1998. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church and engaged in activities and groups within the church throughout his life. He later attended and was baptized at The Rock Church. He shared many of the hobbies of his childhood with his lifelong friend, Nick Hutchinson, and close friend, Jeffe Kirk.
Brandon developed a strong interest in cars and video gaming in his adult life. In the gaming community, BMack was able to meet and make friends with people of all types and from all places. He found great joy and satisfaction in these relationships.
In his adult years, Brandon faced additional health scares and collected additional victories.
At the age of 43, Brandon had lived a full life and had overcome more challenges than most. He had become a champion, with far more victories than losses. In the fall of 2022, Brandon fell ill again. He battled once more with courage, positivity and resolve. He battled with his family and friends, both real and virtual, at his side.
On Saturday, January 7, 2023, Brandon lost an unfair battle, having been weakened by his earlier battles, and passed in peace with the knowledge and comfort that he had loved and been dearly loved his entire life. His family wants to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support. They appreciate the prayers for a miracle and recognize that Brandon had been their miracle since overcoming Leukemia.
Brandon is survived by his parents, David and Mary MacKay, his sister Melissa and her husband Roger Dow, their children Brianna and Michael, and his wife Cassidy and their daughter Peyton, his sister Victoria and her husband Shawn Green and their children Emily, Nicole and Sarah, and his sister Holly and her daughter Isabella.
A service in celebration of Brandon’s life will be held at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home at 133 Center Street in Bangor on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 11:00 am.
