Brenda A. (Melvin) Crosby, 65, after a courageous 8-year battle with brain cancer, passed away while being cared for by Marlene Walker at Total Care Solutions in Holden, Maine on December 20, 2023. Brenda was born on January 12, 1958, in Oxford England, the daughter of Murray and Janet Melvin.
Brenda graduated from Brewer High School in 1976 and Husson College in 1980. She also earned her Master’s Degree in 1989 from New Hampshire College. Brenda married Douglas Crosby in 1981 and they lived in Eliot, Maine while she taught Business Education at Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire. In 1991 they moved to Eddington where they would live for the next thirty-two years. Brenda was hired by Brewer High School in 1991 and taught accounting and computers for twenty-five years until her illness forced her to retire. Brenda had a passion for golf. She made many friends through Bangor Women’s Golf and created numerous memories including her only hole-in-one. In 2018, Brenda and Douglas purchased a home at Timber Pines in Spring Hill, Florida where they spent their winters enjoying the golf, new friends and the warmth Florida offers.
In addition to her husband Douglas of 42 years, Brenda is survived by her daughter Laura Rhoads and her husband James of Eddington, her mother Janet Melvin of Bangor, two sisters and their husbands Bonnie and Malcom Richards of Glenburn and Bridget and Richard Greenstreet of Madison and one brother Brian Melvin and his wife Judy of Clifton. Her pride and joy was her grandson Griffin Rhoads of Eddington.
Brenda was predeceased by her father Murray Melvin in 1992.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 pm Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street in Bangor, with Reverend Deacon Mike Whalen officiating. Relatives and friends may visit from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, on Wednesday.
