It is with great sadness that the family of Brent M. Robbins announce his passing. He died on December 6, 2024, surrounded by loved ones after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Brent was born in Bangor, Maine on August 31, 1961, the son of Clyde B. Robbins and his wife Geraldine (Pickard) Robbins - the youngest of their three children.
Brent was predeceased by both of his parents and his older brother, Jeffrey Robbins. He is survived by his sister Lynne Thomas and her husband, Geoff; his niece, Kate Stone and her husband, Randy along with their two daughters Pearl and Lavender, the apples of Unca‘s eye; Ian Robbins, his nephew and his beloved cat, Buddy as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Brent passed away one day shy of the 17th anniversary of his sobriety, which started after a promise he made to his mother shortly before her passing. He maintained his commitment to sobriety amid his cancer diagnosis and battle. On the final eve of his life, he received his 17-year Alcoholics Anonymous medallion from Jason Gatchell, his close friend and “brother”.
Brent had various jobs during the early years of his adulthood but was most proud of the time he spent managing the Sports Arena in Hermon, Maine for Len and Shelley Cole for over two decades; they became lifelong friends. His dedication and the energy with which he managed the Sports Arena was admirable. He was befriended by many patrons and will be remembered fondly for his ready smile and quick wit.
Brent was also renowned for his love of weightlifting and shared this commitment to fitness with all, using his knowledge to mentor many and inspiring many more who shared his passion.
His love of golf was also strong, not only playing from a very early age and throughout his life, but enjoying a regular summer pilgrimage to the Travelers Championship PGA tour signature event at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut with his friends in recent years.
Whereas Brent’s friends are many, his family wishes to give special thanks to his good friends, Jason Gatchell and Scott Leadbetter who were by his side for much of his medical journey. We also extend special thanks to friends Brian Ross from The Christine B. Foundation; Jean Richards, his advocate at Cancer Care of Maine; Blake Fryer with Angel Flight; Mike and Lysa Pearson, Kathleen Blais and Randy Dodge, his Physical Therapist and cribbage buddy; to the doctors, surgeons and nurses at Dana-Faber Cancer Institute in Boston whose knowledge and skills provided a valuable extension to Brent’s life at the time of his diagnosis. His Beacon Hospice carers deserve special thanks: Mary, Deborah, Steve and Melissa, for the care they provided him in his final days. And special thanks to Kimberly Kempton, a traveling nurse who provided care, kindness and compassion to Brent while a patient at Northern Light EMMC earlier this year.
For those who wish to remember Brent in a special way, please consider donations to The Christine B. Foundation, 304 Hancock St., Suite 1A, Bangor, ME 04401. They provide healthy meals and food to patients suffering from cancer and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to join his family to celebrate Brent’s life at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 5–7 p.m. where friends and family are free to enjoy refreshments, conversation, and share their fond memories of Brent. A graveside service will take place in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, North Main St. in Brewer.
Brent was a beloved, kind and compassionate man, and we will love and miss him forever; he was ours and a true WARRIOR!
