Carl Gopin

March 11, 1936 — September 8, 2023

Carl Benard Gopin “Ben”, 87, passed away peacefully at home, September 8th 2023 accompanied by his cherished wife of 51 years Lois Gopin, who survives him. Ben was born on March 11th, 1936, to parents, Fredia (Koffman) Gopin, & Harry Gopin, he was also predeceased by his sister Shirley Fishman. Ben attended Bangor High School, where he graduated in the class of 1955. He was a proud and devoted lifetime member of Beth Abraham Orthodox Synagogue.

Ben is also survived by his beloved sons Jeff Gopin and wife Denise, Captain Richard Smith and wife Belinda, Christopher Smith and wife Lisa, David Smith and wife Deanna; his nephew Stan, and niece Helene; grandsons Joshua, Adam and Seth Gopin, Ted Murray and wife Meghan, Shawn Smith, Mason Smith, and wife Tracey, Timothy Smith, Daniel Smith, Nicholas Smith, Brandon Smith and wife Phoenix; his great granddaughter Eloise.

As a young man, Ben worked at the Prudential Insurance Company. His Career began when he established the Gopin and Rolnick equipment company with his longtime trusted friend Mike Rolnick. The company sold international Harvester Tractors and Farm Equipment for over thirty years. Ben spoke often of his love of entrepreneurship, sales, and his assiduous work ethic was clear to all who knew him. After many successful years of ownership, they sold the company and Ben retired.

Ben was an avid reader and student of History. He loved the natural beauty of Maine and enjoyed taking road trips across the state. It was said, “He knew every country road in the State.” He loved sharing stories of these many adventures to his family and friends. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his Sons and Grandsons for their many Sports, School, and Life activities. He was proud of all his Sons, and Grandsons for their achievements and was always cheering them forward, offering support, and advice through each phase of life.

Carl Benard Gopin will be dearly missed but will be memorialized in the hearts of all of those, whom he inspired and motivated throughout his life.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, September 10, 2023, the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center Street, Bangor. Interment will follow at Beth Abraham Cemetery, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the interment.
