Carl Willoughby

July 27, 1949 — February 17, 2019

BANGOR - Carl A. Willoughby, 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 17, 2019. Carl grew up in Brewer, the son of Ralph and Barbara Willoughby. He enjoyed growing up in the house on Whiting Hill and often spoke fondly of those days. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1967 where he began his lifelong passion of playing the drums. He attended the University of Maine, continuing to play in numerous bands which he did throughout his lifetime. He met the love of his life, Rhonda, when he played in the band Harvest in 1974. For the last several years Carl’s passion was playing drums with the Calvary Baptist Church Praise Team. Carl started selling cars in 1975. He advanced in that career until entering the financial mortgage business. The final phase of his career was at Gateway Title, where he opened numerous new business relationships and was named GBAR affiliate of the year in 2017.
Carl was predeceased by his parents; brother-in-law, Danny Hilyard; mother-in-law, Marilyn Hilyard; nephew, Danny Hilyard; and lifelong friends, Tony and Barbara Baude (Dow).
Carl is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rhonda; daughter, Shauna Brown and Jeff Brown of Bangor; 3 grandsons, Quincy, Henry and Levi; brothers, Donald Willoughby of Portsmouth, NH and family; and Paul and wife, Elaine Willoughby of Winthrop, and family; brother-in-law, Peter Hilyard (whom he shared a close bond with) and his wife, Lynn and their sons, Cody and Peter; a special niece, Danielle and husband, Brett Stuber and their sons, Jack and Luke; and friends too numerous to mention. Carl and Rhonda share an extraordinary extended family tie with the Baudes and Sturdees.
If you had the privilege of knowing Carl, you were truly blessed. His upbeat personality, passion for helping others and never saying a negative thing about anyone or anything was inspirational. His bright light never dimmed even when he was faced with such difficult challenges.
