BETHEL/BANGOR - Carla A. Durgin, 85, passed away November 25th, 2024. She was born October 13th, 1939, in Greenwood, the daughter of Albert S. and Beatrice E. (Brown) Grover.
Carla married Nelson Durgin, August 6th, 1951, and they were happily married for 59 years. After high school, Carla achieved a bachelor’s degree in teaching and went on to teach for a short time. When her first child came, she left teaching to be a homemaker and was known for her wonderful baking and cooking, especially her Christmas popovers. She enjoyed taking care of her children and supporting her husband in his career while making the house a home. She enjoyed having the holiday get-togethers with all her family. Carla enjoyed playing piano. She especially loved gardening, and was fond of her raspberry bushes. She was always checking them to see if there were berries to be picked and having family help her pick them.
Surviving Carla are her children, son, Michael Durgin, his wife, Karen; daughter, Marjorie Karst, her husband, Kerry; grandchildren, Katie Verville and husband, Paul, Ashley Anderson and husband, Gunnar, Nathan Slater, Aaron Slater, Brandon Slater and wife, Tammy, Nelson King, and Mason King; and six great-grandchildren, Gwilym, Nash, Edda, Shiyanne, Faith, and Blake. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Nelson Durgin; and her brother, Albert Grover.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-7PM, Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A memorial service will be held 11AM, December 5th, 2024, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor.
