BANGOR – Carol (Dunham) Goodwin Leech, 86, passed away peacefully June 23, 2023, with family by her side. She was born May 5, 1937, in Milo, Maine, the daughter of Chester and Genevieve (Austin) Dunham.
Carol moved to Bangor after graduation and worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. She met and married Edwin H. Goodwin and lived in Bradford. They had two children, E. Steven and Diane. They moved to Bangor when Steven started school.
Carol remarried and was widowed by her second husband, Charles A. Leech, in 1997.
Carol also worked for Eastern Maine General Hospital and Bangor Mental Health Institute. Eventually she made a career as a bookkeeper for New Central Furniture, Friedman Furniture, Loiselle & Beatham CPA’s, and the City of Bangor at the Civic Center. Carol always had a quick wit and was often the instigator of many practical jokes played on co-workers and family. She had several special friends and was often seen walking throughout the greater Bangor area.
Upon retirement she worked part time at Country Sisters gift shop in the Airport Mall, and for 26 years volunteered as a hospice caregiver.
Carol is survived by her son, Steven Goodwin, and his wife, Sheila and their family; daughter, Diane Simpson and her husband, David and their family; sister, Marilyn Lombardo, and her family; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and Wendall; and a sister Avis (Dunham) Dutch.
