CARRIE TAYLOR MURPHY
Carrie Taylor Murphy, 84 passed away July 19, 2023 at her Holden home. She was born May 27, 1939 in Millinocket, Maine, the daughter of Bernice (Taylor) Murphy and Freeman Murphy. Ms.
Murphy graduated from Stearns High School as Valedictorian of her 1957 class and was a
member of the National Honor Society. She was president of the Stearns Girls Athletic
Association, vice-president of her senior class and played in the Stearns High School Band. In
1958 she graduated from Husson College with an accounting diploma. In 1973 she returned to
Husson University to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree graduating with honors in Business
Teacher Education. She was a member of Epsilon Tau Episilon Sorority and in 1989, she was
inducted into the Husson University Sports Hall of Fame for basketball.
Among her varied career pursuits in life, she worked as a Pine Tree Camp counselor, office
manager, business manager, computer and CED Site coordinator at Husson University as well
as working in real estate sales in Florida. She earned high honors from the General Motors
Council of Business Managers as being awarded the First in Maine for two years and First in
New England the third year.
Ms Murphy belonged to the Onawa #130 Chapter – Order of the Eastern Star; Millinocket
Congregational Church; Stearns High School Alumni Association; American Association of
Retired Persons; and the Husson University Alumni Association. In the Child Reach Program,
Ms Murphy sponsored a little girl in the Dominican Republic.
She assisted Dr. Janet Kinney in editing, college textbooks for the Hudson Group, Inc. and the
Benjamin Cummings Publishing Company. Ms Murphy wrote several computer programs
of which two were “Electronic Rank Book for the IBM PC and Tandy 1000SX and Tests & Calcs
for the IBM PC and the Tandy 1000SX”. In addition, she authored two self-help
manuals entitled “Electronic Rank Book Teachers’ Manual for the IBM PC and Tandy 1000SX”
and “A Manual for Tests and Calcs for the IBM PC and Tandy1000SX ”.
Following her retirement, she became a volunteer member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer
Program and Retired Executive Volunteer Consultant. She volunteered her services at the
Penobscot Theatre, St. Joseph Hospital, Meals for Me and the Good Smaritan Home. She was a
member of Altrusa International and Treasurer of Epilson Delta Alumnae.
During the summer, she particularly enjoyed spending leisurely times at her cottage on Beech
Hill Pond.
Ms Murphy is survived by her sister, Anne (Murphy) Pratt of Robbinston, Maine; twin sister,
Jean Taylor Murphy of St. Stephen, N. B. Canada; brother, Freeman John Murphy and wife,
Ann, of Millinocket, Maine, and a niece, nephews, great nephews, and a dear friend, Heather
MacLeod of Bangor, Maine.
Funeral services will be held 1 pm Friday, July 28, 2023 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street Bangor, with the Reverend Gail Januskiewicz, officiating.
Burial shall be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Monetary gifts may
be made in her memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, Maine
