Carroll H. Austin

Ellsworth – Carroll H. Austin, 91, died peacefully December 22, 2018, at Thornton Hall Assisted Living Center in Brunswick. He was born August 14, 1927, in Ellsworth, the son of Philip and Madeline (Harrington) Austin.

Carroll graduated from Ellsworth High School. He entered the navy during WWII. Carroll graduated from Husson College with a degree in Business. He married Ellen Joan Nadeau in March of 1953. Carroll worked for twenty two years at Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket, then worked eighteen years for the IRS in the Presque Isle and Bangor offices.

Carroll enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Branch Lake, playing guitar with his cousins, Bill and Bob Higgins. Carroll also enjoyed sailing in Penobscot Bay, gardening, fishing, and watching his grandchildren play sports.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Richard Roland Austin; and his wife, Ellen Joan Austin.

Carroll is survived by his sons, Scott Austin, and his wife, Tara, of Houlton, Jeffrey Austin and his wife, Barbara, of Brunswick; grandchildren, Marc and Alyssa Austin, of Hodgdon, Chris and Heidi Austin, of Hampden, Ben and Kendal Austin, of Boston, Emily Austin, of Brunswick, and Katelyn Austin, of Brunswick; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Ella Austin, of Hampden, and Madison Austin, of Hodgdon; a sister, Evelyn, and her husband, Harry Morris, of Largo, Florida; two nieces, Ginny Morris of Norcross, Georgia, and Gayle Allison of Floral City, Florida; as well as a special friend, Joan Seamans, of Skowhegan.

The family would like to thank the staff at Thornton Hall Assisted Living for the outstanding care and compassion they provided throughout the time he resided there. Friends and family are invited to share conversation and refreshments Saturday, January 5, 2019, 12-2:00 pm, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor. Those wishing to remember Carroll in a special way may make donations to the Richard Roland Austin Memorial Scholarship Fund, University of Maine Foundation, Buchanan Alumni House, 2 Alumni Place, Orono, Me. 04469-5792.
