Carroll Spooner

November 4, 1936 — April 28, 2014

BAR HARBOR – Carroll O. Spooner, 77, died, April 28, 2014, at the MDI hospital. He was born November 4, 1936, in New Sweden, the son of Cecil and Sigrid (Akerson) Spooner. Carroll was a twenty three year veteran in the U.S. Air Force. He received several medals including the Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the military he worked for the Orrington School system and Sherman’s Book Store in Ellsworth and Bar Harbor. He is survived by his wife Gail (Lambert) (Hanscom) Spoonerof BarHarbor, daughter Lynn Coombs and her husband Melvin of Orrington, two sons, Greg and his wife Judy of Hammond, LA, David of Fayetteville, NC, two adopted sons, Robert and Brian, three stepsons, David Hanscom of Arlington, WA, Jeffrey Hanscom and friend Bernadette Williams of Virginia Beach, VA, and Scott Hanscom of Baltimore, MD, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, that he loved and enjoyed watching grow up. He is also survived by three brothers, Erwin, Donald and his wife Donna all of Bucksport, Peter and his wife Ellen of Brewer, three sisters, Joyce Burrill of Bangor, Erlene and her husband Percy Harding of Bar Harbor, Esther of Bucksport, brother-in-law Stanley Bennett of Bucksport and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Helen Bennett. A memorial service will be conducted 11 AM Monday May 5, 2014 at the Brewer chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Peter Remick officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 10 AM until time of service. A committal service with military honors will take place following the service at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport.
