Catharine Mcdonald

June 20, 1975 — April 28, 2019

Catharine L. McDonald, 43, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 28, 2019, after suffering cardiac arrest. She was born June 20, 1975, at Holloman Air Force Base, Alamorgordo, NM.
Cathy was much adored by her loving partner of 17 years, Sam Richardson, and by the McDonald and Richardson families. No one had a more thoughtful and loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, or friend. Cathy graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1993 and University of Maine Farmington in 1997. She was the Advertising Manager for the Bar Harbor Times and its sister papers from 1997 until their closure in 2012. In 2004, Cathy was named Advertising Person of the Year for the State of Maine. After 2012 Cathy worked for local establishments in Bar Harbor. Cathy was active in the Bar Harbor community as a member of Rotary and a volunteer for charitable causes. She loved Bar Harbor, spending time ‘upta’ camp, and especially traveling to warmer destinations, particularly the Caribbean and Mexico (always returning with a gorgeous tan!)
In addition to Sam, Cathy is survived by her father and step-mom, Scott and Mary Mc Donald of Holden, her mother Jill McDonald of Ellsworth, and her sister Amanda and husband Ryan Curry of Bangor. She is also survived by her grandparents Henry and Mary Joy, aunts and uncles Carl McDonald, Darcy Milliard, Laurie and Steven Campbell, Nora Gardiner, Patty and Mike Danforth, and many special cousins. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Jesse and Steven McAvoy Sr, and uncles Stephen Jr. and Fenton McAvoy. The family would like to extend their thanks to the EMTs, MDI hospital staff, Life Flight crew, and EMMC staff that fought to save her life.
A service for family only will be held on Saturday May 4th in Bangor. At a later date, a remembrance will take place in Bar Harbor. In the summer Cathy will be laid to rest in the Richardson Family Cemetery on Beech Hill. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Bar Harbor Food Pantry P.O. Box 434, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. Condolences may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
