Catherine Barry

Brewer – C. Maxine Barry, 89, died peacefully January 1, 2017, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 22, 1927, in Brewer, the daughter of William G. and Margaret T. (Cannon) Connelly.

Maxine graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1945. She worked at Western Union, then she took a job as a ticket agent at Northeast Airlines, followed by Delta Airlines, until her retirement. One day, while traveling on a train, Maxine swapped magazines with the young man seated next to her. Little did she know that Frederick “Red” Barry would soon become the love of her life. They were married on April 18, 1953. When Maxine wasn’t working she enjoyed knitting, traveling, and spending time with her loving family. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and Nana to many.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, “Red”; a son Billy Barry; and a sister Patricia Van Peursem. She is survived by son Fred and wife, Donna; daughter Margo and husband Rod Grant; daughter-in-law, Ellen Barry; grandchildren Camden Maxine Barry Grant and her love, Blake Jenkins, Castine Maxine Barry Grant, Billy Barry and wife Cathy, and Joey Barry; great granddaughter, Rosalie Barry; sisters-in-law Jean Curran and Jill St. John; loving nieces and nephews; her three little Yorkies, Zsa Zsa, Streamers, and Confetti; and her three kitties.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, in Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor immediately following the interment.
