Charles Barton

August 28, 1932 — January 7, 2016

HAMPDEN AND BANGOR - Charles R. Barton, 83 of Avalon Village in Hampden passed away peacefully at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor on January 7, 2016 after a brief illness. “Charlie” was born in Bangor, Maine on August 28, 1932 the son of George and Grace (Hughes) Barton. He was a graduate of John Bapst High School and Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he worked in various roles and capacities that led him to live in Boston, Micronesia, and California eventually retiring as Controller for the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose, California. He returned to Maine in retirement to return to his roots and be closer to family.
Charlie was a man of faith who realized the importance of God, family and friends. We who love him, pray that he will experience the love and mercy of God and that he is now joined with those he loved in eternal life.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Walter and his wife Elizabeth; sisters Barbara (Barton) Dufour and Sister Grace Joyce Barton, RSM; brother in-law Dennis “Don” Soucy, and a special nephew, Mark Dufour. He is survived by his sister, Constance (Barton) Soucy of Bangor; brother in-law, F. Philip Dufour of Camden; several nieces and nephews as well as many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Charlie also leaves many friends, especially those who he reconnected with and new ones made after returning to the Bangor area. He had a life-long affection for dogs and leaves his most recent companion “Toby”.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor.
