BREWER – Charles E. “Charlie” Bemis Sr., 75, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family October 18, 2024. He was born January 20, 1949, in Dexter, the son of Jacob E. and Phyllis M. (Gudroe) Bemis.
Charlie graduated from Piscataquis Community High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller for 8 years. After his service in the Air Force, he continued as an air traffic controller for Bangor International Airport. He then, was employed at FedEx until his retirement.
Charlie loved spending time with his family and friends at camp. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheeling. He also had a passion for wood-working in several capacities, from building his camp, to garages, a restaurant, and even canoes.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lillian (Robinson) Bemis; son, Jake Bemis; daughter, Heidi Selanikio and her husband, Len; grandchildren, Taylor Soderberg and her husband, Justin, Emily Cole and her husband, Patrick, Kristina Bemis, and Emma and Jacob Selanikio; great-grandchildren, Nova and Riley Soderberg; brother, William Bemis; sisters, Darlene Lowery and Rebecca Gilbert and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S Main St., Brewer. The family invites all to share conversation and refreshments in the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, immediately following the service.
