Brewer – Charlotte M. Gray, 89, wife of Lester A. Gray, died after a brief illness July 17, 2016, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 13, 1927, in Brewer, the daughter of LeRoy and Persis (Ware) Marshall.
Church was very important to Charlotte. She was a member of the East Orrington Congregational Church in Orrington, and enjoyed very much serving and worshiping there.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was predeceased by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. James DeVere, Sr.; brothers and sisters; and a very special sister, Avis Jordan. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 70 years, Lester Gray; son Alton Gray and wife Barbara of Holden; daughters Donna Jamieson of Holden, Beverly McGillicuddy and husband Daniel of Gorham, and Carol Reynolds of Holden; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Woodlands Assisted Living, in Brewer, and to the ICU and Palliative Care staffs at Eastern Maine Medical Center for their loving care generously given to Charlotte.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 So. Main St., Brewer, with Rev. Carl Schreiber, pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 12 noon until time of service. Interment will be in Central Cemetery, Dedham. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington following the interment. Those who wish to remember Charlotte in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the East Orrington Congregational Church Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, which is used for community assistance, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington, ME, 04474.
