Chris has enjoyed life in Bangor, Maine, since 1976 when his family relocated from Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Chris was the beloved youngest of six children and is survived by one brother Mark McCarthy and his wife, Erin of Baltimore, Md., and four sisters, Theresa McCarthy and her husband, Peter Chandler of Alexandria, Va., Margaret McCarthy of Alexandria, Va., Karen McCarthy of Fairfax City, Va., and Laurie McCarthy of New York, N.Y. Chris will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews: Matthew Chandler, D'Elia Chandler, Lillian McCarthy, Cormac McCarthy, Teague McCarthy, and Theresa McCarthy.
Chris graduated from the University of Maine in Orono and Bangor High School. He enjoyed life as an entrepreneur and operated McCarthy's Home Improvements for many years. He also worked at Affiliated Laboratory for over twenty-five years. Chris enjoyed travelling and had some great adventures in Greece, Spain, England, Ireland, Italy, the Caribbean, and many favorite spots within the United States. Chris was a gifted athlete playing football, baseball, ice hockey and running track in his youth. He was especially skillful at ice hockey and enjoyed dekeing opposing players while humming the Boston Bruins theme song. He also took great pleasure in a competitive game of racquetball. Chris enjoyed following the Red Sox, Bruins, NE Patriots, and Celtics.
Chris especially enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; chatting and laughing with new and old friends around town, working and being outside, listening to feel-good music, and helping anyone in need of a hand. He had a big heart, a beautiful smile and a magical twinkle in his eye.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor, on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at 10 AM. Those who wish to remember Chris in a special way, please say a prayer. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com
