Cindy Lutz

August 21, 1947 — March 3, 2021

Cindy R. (Merceret) Lutz, formerly of Plymouth MA, passed away peacefully at home in Glenburn, ME on March 3, 2021, while surrounded by family after a courageous battle with chronic illnesses. Predeceased by her daughter Jennifer, she is survived by her former husband James J. Lutz of Bangor, ME, her children J. Devon Lutz and his wife Elaine and their three girls Molly, Abigail, and Jillian of Plymouth, MA., her son J. Darren Lutz and his partner Jessica Johnson of Plymouth, MA, and her daughter Rebecca Ruth (Becky) Lutz and her Partner Amber Morin of Glenburn, ME. She is also survived by her brother Francis Merceret and his wife Elizabeth of Merritt Island, FL., and their children Honor, and Martin.

Cindy was born on August 21, 1947, Daughter of Francis Jules and Ruth Lucinda (Weller) Merceret in Baltimore, MD. She Graduated from Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1968. The 32 years working in the operating room with 27 being at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA. was a blessing to all. The dedication and passion she put into her career was like no other. She was known for her warm embracing hugs, and beautiful smile that brought peace and love to so many.

Cindy did all she could to support her children and their passions throughout their lives. She was a safe place for many people to fall when they needed someone the most. She accepted and loved everybody and was known as “Mom” to many of her children’s childhood friends. She never missed an opportunity to cheer for her kids at a hockey tournament, motorcycle race, or soccer game. For her small stature she was often the loudest cheerleader.

Next to her passion for nursing, and the great love she had for her children, Cindy loved animals of all kinds. She has had virtually every pet imaginable. Her favorite guinea pigs Pip and PigPig were incredibly special to her over the past few years. She never hesitated to recue an orphaned wild animal, and on occasion would keep it as a pet for a while. A raccoon, a squirrel, chinchillas, a Macaw and lovebirds, tropical fish, ferrets, and many breeds of dogs all graced her home while the kids grew up. It is a passion that she passed down to all her kids. One time, she even rescued a baby seal from the shoreline and was happy, but sad, when New England Aquarium repossessed it.

She enjoyed playing and caring for her animals, days at long beach in Plymouth, and picnics and fishing on our boat out of Plymouth Harbor.

One of many highlights of her life was her month-long trip to South Africa. She experienced the safari she always dreamed of. She hand fed Giraffes, played with baby lions, and got to photograph almost all of the wild animals and countryside of South Africa. She shared her stories and photos of the trip as often as she could until the day she passed. She always said, “not a day passed she didn’t reminisce about her trip.”
A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held at a later date in Plymouth, MA. In lieu of Flowers, Cindy would appreciate a donation to your local animal shelter in her name. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
