Fort Myers, FL and Ellsworth, ME - Clayton Edwin Wallace, 72, died at his home in Maine from dementia on June 16, 2023. He was born on January 04, 1951, in Rome, NY, the son of Clayton “Jack” and Shirley (Woodman) Wallace.
Clayton graduated from MDI High School in 1969, and EMVT in 1970; after which he began working in his family’s decorating business. In 1980 he bought the family business, becoming the 4th generation owner of Wallace Interiors. Clayton and his wife, Gail also owned Wallace Awnings and Wallace Tent and Party Rentals. Clayton was a hard worker and took pride in all his businesses. One by one he sold each business… the Awning business being his last in 2019. For 17 yrs he and his wife spent the winter in FL in their coach(s) making great RVing friends from all over the country. In 2021, they purchased a home in Ft. Myers. Unfortunately, Clayton didn’t get to enjoy it.
Clayton was raised to a Master Mason in January 1978 in the Northeast Harbor Lodge No. 208 A.F. & A.M. and joined the Anah Shriners in June 1980, later becoming a member of the Second Section. He had the Shrine emblem on all his vehicles and was often thanked by strangers (many with personal stories) for the free Shrine Hospitals for Children. He truly loved being a Shriner.
Clayton is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gail (Clarke) Wallace; children and spouses, Beth and Toby Pinkham, Becky and Ralph Graham, Richard and Connie Wallace, and Jeffrey Wallace; sisters and brothers, Carol Hamor, Kevin and Jay Wallace, Deanna Wallace and Larry West, Debbie and Tony DeJulio; and was predeceased by his sister, Elina Saunders. And oh, how he loved being “Grampa” to his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren!!
Special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and Marlene Walker, Total Care Solutions for taking care of Clayton and guiding us through this last year.
