Constance Jean (McClay) Martin
Connie was born in Bangor, Maine on January 11, 1940, the youngest child of William and Mary Evelyn (Coney) McClay. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Connie attended Bangor schools, graduating from Bangor High School in 1957. She attended and graduated from Husson College in 1959. She then worked for the Pulp and Sulfite Union in Bangor, Maine. As her children grew, Connie provided childcare and eventually opened her own small business, Connie's Daycare. Connie cherished the happy memories of all her daycare children.
She married the love of her life, Gerald W. Martin, on June 23, 1962. They settled in Bangor and raised their family. Connie was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, Saint Paul the Apostle Parish of Bangor. She was an active volunteer at Bangor Schools, the Bangor YMCA and, later in life, as a Northern Light Health - Caring Calls volunteer. Connie's family and friends meant the world to her. Her love was evident in the many gatherings and family holidays she hosted throughout her life.
Connie was predeceased by her husband, Gerald "Jay"; her parents; her twin sister, Catherine; brother, William "Bill" McClay and his wife, Betty; her sister, Patricia "Pat" Stefanski and her husband, John.
She is survived by her children, Susan and her husband, Ron Colley; Jane and her husband, Glenn Dunne; Jerry and his wife, Lisa Martin and Cindy and her husband, Chad Smith, as well as, her devoted family friend, Patti Dionne. Her grandchildren, Zachary and Alexander Dunne, Matthew, Mark and Maria Colley, Grace and Isabelle Martin and Audrey and Mary-Kate Smith. Connie was blessed with three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Kalleigh, and Emma Hebert-Dunne. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We would like to thank the staff of Country Villa (Lori, Terri, Suzie, Janice, Bruce, and Tina and all the other staff) for all the love and care they provided our mom for the many years she lived there. Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, Home Care, Palliative Care and Hospice teams provided excellent care and support throughout the years. Special thanks to Emma, Anne, Jenn, Dr. Heather Martin and all the hospice team. We would also like to thank the staff at Westgate Senior Center who cared for mom with love and compassion at the end of her life. Our family is incredibly grateful to each of you.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. Following Committal Prayers, relatives and friends are invited to share stories at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
