Glenburn - Cynthia Fowlow, age 75, went to her heavenly homegoing on September 26, 2024. Her husband, Reuben Fowlow; daughters, Carybrooke Perrow and her husband, Gabriel, and Heather Fowlow and her son, Micah Fowlow; and grandchildren, Christianne and Noah, mourn her loss but rejoice with her friends and relatives that she put her eternal hope in the only one who can give true hope, Jesus her Savior. Mom, Meme, Friend: yes, our hearts are forever broken, but we know you're in your final home. The love you bestowed will never be forgotten, whether friend, children, grandchildren or close relative.
Cynthia was predeceased by her mother, Orpha Brooker; father, Louis Brooker; brother, Louis Brooker Jr.; and sister, Julia Watson. She is survived by her sisters, Sylvia Thurston of Connecticut and Violet Nason of Las Vegas. Special mention must go to Julia Kneeland, her niece, who was like a sister. There is a wide circle of friends, nieces, nephews and cousins living in Newfoundland, Ontario and Alberta, Canada, as well as in Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Nevada, who will miss her endearing personality.
After graduating from Zion Bible institute in Rhode Island, and coursework at the North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Cynthia landed a teaching job at Charisma Collegiate, Springdale, Newfoundland, Canada, where she met her husband, Reuben, in 1971. They later married on July 21, 1974, in Houlton, Maine. While in NL, Cynthia was active with the government of NL, designing programs for the youth of the province. She also was an integral part of Springdale's winter carnivals using her puppet, Jerry, to entertain the crowd. Cynthia went on to do her master's in counseling at Fort Hays Kansas State College and graduated in 1974. She also obtained a Certificate of Advanced Study at UMO. Cynthia taught school at Glad Tidings Academy in Bangor and taught an adult Sunday school class at Glad Tidings Church. While at Glad Tidings, she helped with praying with people who called in following the airing of "Celebration" produced by Pastor Robert Gass.
She served as guidance counselor in SAD 63 and Sad 64 area schools, Dexter Middle School, and Glenburn Elementary. Cynthia also worked with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at Northern Light. In addition, she worked at Bangor Adult Ed and was also a literacy volunteer. In her most recent years, she was a professor and counselor at Faith Bible College International, where she endeared herself to many of the students she taught. Cynthia was a longtime member of Charleston Church and volunteered her time to teach lessons in the Basic Foundation Classes and counseled parishioners when called upon by the church leadership.
Cynthia will be missed by her rug-hooking friends. She was always welcomed by the group even as she struggled in recent months with dementia. They encouraged and helped her whenever she attended the group meetings.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 4-6 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. A celebration of Cynthia's life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, at Charleston Church, 185 Main Rd., Charleston. Those who wish to attend the service remotely may do so by visiting Charleston Church's Facebook page. The family invites all to share conversation and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn, following the reception. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in her memory to Whited Bible Camp Kid's Ministry, Bridgewater, Maine. Cynthia taught kids for many summers, loved children and would light up when meeting them or watching them perform during special occasions.
