BANGOR - Dana Dennis Lavaway, 82, went to be with his beloved wife on December 25, 2022. He was born July 16, 1940, in Presque Isle, ME, the only son of Marion Campbell.
Dana graduated from Presque Isle High School, class of 1957. Soon after graduation, he joined the United States Navy. While in the USN, he did 3 tours in Vietnam, obtained 3 Purple Hearts and a Medal of Honor. He retired in 1981, after 22 years of dedicated service to his country. He married the love of his life, Vivian, on June 15th, 1974. They were married 40 years and lived a life full of love and happiness.
Dana was always such a fun-spirited soul. He was known for making people laugh so hard until their stomachs would hurt all while making memories that would last a lifetime. He was a devoted family man who had no end for the love he had for his family. He touched so many lives and will be forever missed by so many.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian Lavaway; mother, Marion Campbell; grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. Dana is survived by his daughters, Kerrie Simard, and her husband, Ralph of Bangor, Michelle Lavaway-Wilcox of Colton, NY; grandson, Seth Palmer, and wife Kaialee; granddaughters, Denise Lavaway, and her fiancé Jesse Rosebush, and their daughter, Vivian Rosebush of Bangor, Josalyn Wark, and her fiancé, Keema Jackson, and sons Kyle Wark, Kole Wark, and Kyree Jackson of Bangor, Madyson Wark of Bangor, Nicole Will, and her children, Micheal, and Nellie of New York; adoptive daughter, Ashley Strid of Saco; and adoptive granddaughter, Natalie Renaud of Saco, whom he loved as his own.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2023, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor, 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2023.
