HAMPDEN – Daniel Noyes Brooks O.D., 66, died June 25, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 9, 1952, in Bangor, son of Walter Calvin and Margaret (Spaulding) Brooks. Daniel was a graduate from Bangor High School, Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University, where he was a member of TKE fraternity, Pennsylvania College of Optometry and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (1st certified Optometric Residency Program in the nation). He was married for 44 years to the love of his life, Nina (Patteson) Brooks and practiced his passion of Optometry for 43 years as a third generation Optometrist. Daniel was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Katahdin Area Council, and the Boys Scouts of America Board of Reviews. He was involved in the Special Olympics and Salvation Army during his many years with the Bangor Lions Club of which he was a past President. He also was a member of the Maine Optometric Association, past President of Bangor City Club, Lura E. Hoit Memorial Pool – Board of Trustees, and the Edyth L. Dyer Community Library – Board of Trustees. Daniel loved being outdoors at camp “his happy place”, beach trips visiting the Patteson family, attending son’s hockey games, exploring lighthouses with daughter, Kelly, doing puzzles, watching the Red Sox and the list goes on. Dan loved his children dearly. He was very family oriented and enjoyed many gatherings, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with the Brooks, Dickeys and other family members. He was predeceased by his father, Walter Calvin Brooks O.D. and mother, Margaret (Spaulding) Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Nina (Patteson) Brooks and daughter, Kelly Brooks, both of Hampden; son, Michael Brooks and wife, Kelly Havlin of Los Angeles, CA; son, Kevin Brooks and wife, Caitlin of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters, Jacklyn Brooks and Elliotte Brooks; sisters, Susan Esther Brooks of Milford and Mary Margaret Brooks of Bangor; brother, Andrew David Brooks of Forest City; aunt, Diane Spaulding of Embden Pond; and many other beloved family members. The family invites relatives and friends to a celebration of Daniel’s life and share conversation and refreshments 3 to 6pm, Monday, July 1, 2019 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
