Daniel Doolittle

June 22, 1964 — September 5, 2022

Daniel Martin Doolittle, 58, of Old Town, Maine, born June 22nd, 1964, died Monday, September 5th, 2022. He was preceded by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Black, and his father, Kenneth Arnold Doolittle, and sister, Deirdre. Survivors include his two daughters, Emily Regina Doolittle and Elizabeth Ann Doolittle, step-mother, Jo Etta Doolittle, sisters, Deborah Hope Doolittle, Dara Lynn Doolittle, and Wanda Jo Kothlow, and brothers, Douglas Manley Doolittle, Daniel Robert Charles Kothlow, and David William Ashley Doolittle. Daniel is also survived by an extended family and friends who will miss him and his radiant smile.
Daniel’s childhood passion for making models became a life-long preoccupation with making his own models, gradually reducing the scale until he graduated to a half-size sailboat that occupied a substantial space in the family garage. This hobby would take him to the state of Maine where he turned it into a profession of building hand-made boats to customers’ specifications. Painting was his other passion; he produced many large canvasses of brightly colored still-lifes and landscapes and other kaleidoscopic-like scenes as if seen through a stain-glass window or mosaic, some of which landed in local art exhibits. In family get-togethers, he was an avid “May I” card player, in which some of the games have been remembered as “epic.”
He will be remembered for his easy-going nature and for his quiet generosity and his patient, forgiving spirit. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to your local library or homeless shelter. Condolences may be expressed to the family at BrookingsSmith.com.
