CARMEL - Daniel E. Durant, 65, went home to be with the Lord on December 04, 2019. He was surrounded by family who loved him dearly. He was born June 5, 1954, the son of Erwin and Ruth (Bailey) Durant, and younger brother to Steve Durant.
Most of Dan's younger years were spent growing up in Key West, Florida, where he had an abundance of memories with wild situations involving sand sharks and blow fish. Dan carried his love for water and boating up to his final moments.
As Dan grew into an adult, he became an established member of the community in Carmel and was a devoted member of the volunteer Fire Department and participated in coaching little league sports for his children.
In early 2003, after suffering the loss of his eldest daughter, Sonya, Dan turned to Christ for healing and he never looked back. It was in church that he met his greatest love, Gail. He enjoyed doting on her for the last 17 years of his life.
Being a beautiful example of Christ's love, Dan had a servant's heart. He had a wealth of knowledge and amazing ingenuity, enabling him to fix almost anything. He loved to help people in any way he could. With a full heart and a wise mind, he was a voice of reason for many.
Dan was predeceased by his daughter, Sonya Mason.
Along with a legacy of love, kindness, gentleness, and greatness, he leaves behind his wife, Gail; children, Andy, Amy, and Adam; parents, Ruth and Erwin; brother, Steve and his wife, Marie; grandchildren, Brooke, Rosa, Deven, Lindsey, Bladen and Kyler; his church family at New Beginnings Church, including beloved pastors, Paul and Kim and his mentor, Joshua. Being a devoted disciple, husband, father, grandfather and friend, Dan leaves behind countless others that will miss his gentle soul.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at New Beginnings Church, 1606 Hammond St. Gifts of condolence or financial assistance to help with cost of arrangements can be sent to Gail Durant, 173 Bemis Rd., Carmel, ME 04419.
