Daniel J. Oster

Daniel James Oster, passed away September 5, 2020 at his home. He was born April 1, 1948 in Ishpeming, Michigan, son of Alfred and Charlotte (Swanson) Oster.
Dan graduated from Negaunee High School in 1966. He joined the USN in 1967 and retired as a Torpedoman 1st class in 1988 and settled in Maine. His favorite duty station was Adak, Alaska where he spent almost five years. Dan enjoyed duck and caribou hunting there. He was an award -winning skeet shooter for years. Dan then went to work for Adams Russell Cable in Bangor and retired as a supervisor at Spectrum Cable in 2015. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener in the summer and a trapper in the winter. Dan enjoyed volunteering with Special Olympics and formed many friendships with the athletes. Dan was an enthusiastic fan of Maine Women’s Basketball and a season ticketholder. He was a lifelong learner who loved to read. He loved his Upper Penninsula home and looked forward to visits there with friends and family. He loved Thanksgiving and Christmas and made it special for everyone around him. Dan brought humor and good will to every gathering.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Lavern Oster, nephew, Jason Wainio, niece, Kelly Wainio.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Bernie Oster, son, Chris Oster, special nephew, Gabe Winn and wife, Kimberly of Stetson, brothers, Robert Oster and wife, Bonnie, of Marshland, NC, Tom Oster and wife, Janet of Marquette, MI; sisters, Susan Wainio and Wendy Fulsher of Negaunee, MI; beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
