WINTERPORT - Darryl C. Parker, 74, passed away in Bangor with his children by his side November 6, 2022, after a long illness. He was born May 18, 1948, in Bangor, to Mildred (Harnden) Gomm and Julius Parker.
Darryl attended Bangor High School and volunteered for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served mostly in Germany and Thailand and always held a special fondness for both countries and the friends and surrogate families he made there. He met the love of his life, Linda D. Richardson, soon after returning to Maine in 1973 and they married in June of 1974. Together, they raised their two children, his son, and three of her nieces.
He cherished the time spent and memories made training, traveling and competing in martial arts with his children. He held top national rankings in his division for both fighting and forms for several years. He had a long career with the U.S. Postal Service and was especially proud of the work he did as Steward and President of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 391 and as a certified Labor Arbitrator. After his retirement, he and Linda enjoyed traveling the country by RV for a few years before settling again in Maine. He had a passionate interest in politics and was an active member of the Waldo County Democratic Committee.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased very recently by his beloved wife, Linda; his son, Frederick Parker; sisters, LeeAnn Daigle and Debra Donelan; brothers, Jay Parker and Clifford Gomm; stepfather, Alfred Gomm; his childhood best friend and honorary brother, Frederick McHugh, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his daughter, Daralin Parker Beckett and her husband, Dr. Nathan Beckett, of Exeter; son, Daniel Parker, of Old Town; grandchildren, Aryanna and Jahsun; sisters, Kathi Morrissey, Pam Parker Campbell Hall, and Sue Dority and her husband, Elwin, Tammy Bailey and her husband, Craig, Minya Lynch and her husband, Jim; brothers, Scott Harnden and his wife, Patty, and Steven Gomm; and many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
