Hampden - David G. Baker passed away on May 13, 2024, after a brief illness at the age of 82. He was a graduate of Hampden Academy, where he excelled in multiple sports, especially basketball. After graduation, he attended Ricker College and continued his basketball prowess there. Dave then settled down to begin a family and his professional life, which included the family oil business, E.G. Baker Fuel Oils, Hampden Auto Parts, and then a long run with Lane Construction until retirement.
Dave had a long life filled with lots of laughs. One to never take life too seriously and who chose to enjoy instead would often be seen on the West Branch of the Penobscot, fly fishing rod in hand, with his best friend, Denny Ellingwood. He also spent some time racing stock cars for his uncle, Bernie Baker culminating with the championship at Speedway 95 in 1967. He swapped out the steering wheel for golf clubs and won the 1973 Paul Bunyan for net score. Dave enjoyed watching multiple sports especially the Boston Celtics, once participating at a youth clinic with the C's where he even partook in a passing drill with the Bob Cousy!
He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest G. Baker and Janice (Goodwin) Baker. He is survived by his wonderful wife, Marie (Guerin) Baker of Hampden; sister, Judith Baker of Hampden; son, Michael Baker and his wife, Lori, also of Hampden; daughter, Michele (Baker) Lands and her husband, Brian, of Arundel; grandchildren, Tori and Colby Lands, and the grandchildren, known as the four Baker girls, Chelsea, Chloe, Camden, and Charlotte; many cousins, and a special friend, Paul Weaver, who was like family as well.
